Free Workshops in Title 1 Schools

The Youth Poster Contest is critically important in reaching out to underserved Marin youth who might not otherwise participate in such a contest due to a lack of art teachers, art supplies, or parental support at home. We provide free poster workshops (including a well-known artist instructor, free art supplies for the school, and a surprise gift bag of art supplies for participating students) in several Marin Title I schools, which serve our most at-risk students.  Additionally, for 2022 we are working with Next Generation Scholars to provide free poster workshops to their middle school program for at-risk Marin students.

One of our Title 1 school partners is Bayside Martin Luther King, Jr. Academy in Marin City. Art teacher, Ellen Franz, stated "The opportunity for young people to learn strategies that will support them in sharing their ideas and thinking about important issues is certainly infectious. The fact that this work is focused on students whose voices most often go unheard, as well as conducted pro bono, add substance to this work."
